Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga has launched an online attack against Peter Obi, calling the former Anambra governor a “copy-and-paste politician”.

The presidential spokesperson in an X post argued that Obi’s record shows a lack of original ideas and limited achievements during his eight years in office.

Writing on X, Onanuga said, “Peter Obi has never shown original, authentic thinking. He is a copy-and-paste politician.

“That explains why he has nothing to showcase as Anambra governor for eight years. Willie Obiano, his successor, said Obi failed spectacularly in providing security in the state.”

Onanuga contrasted Obi’s record with the legacy of President Bola Tinubu from his time as Lagos governor, citing institutions and projects he says demonstrate deeper, lasting impact.

“In contrast with Governor Tinubu in Lagos, Tinubu left LAWMA, LASTMA, LAMATA, RRS, a rail and road masterplan, which is still being executed to this day,” Onanuga wrote, adding that “Nigeria deserves a leader who can see beyond the ken of the ordinary people, a leader who is a proven deep thinker and doer.

“Peter Obi is no match for President Bola Tinubu. They are not on the same level.”

The post was made in response to an earlier tweet by Reno Omokri that highlighted macroeconomic indicators comparing Nigeria’s recent performance under President Tinubu with Indonesia’s economic trajectory.

Omokri had cited data showing the naira’s appreciation from about ₦1,565 to ₦1,365 per US dollar, “12 consecutive GDP growth cycles,” trade surpluses, and an IMF statement ranking Nigeria among the top contributors to global GDP growth in 2025.

He contrasted those figures with Indonesia’s rupiah weakening from Rp16,173 to Rp18,063 per dollar and a reported -0.77% quarter‑on‑quarter GDP contraction in Q1 2026, which he said made Indonesia “Asia’s worst-performing major currency” over the cited period.

Onanuga used Omokri’s economic comparisons to argue that Obi’s admiration for Indonesia as an economic model praised by Obi in February 2025 was misplaced.

He concluded his post by asserting that, given the economic indicators and Tinubu’s institutional legacy in Lagos, Obi does not measure up as a national-level thinker or leader.
