Manchester City has offered Rodri a new contract several months ago, but talks have stalled and no agreement has been reached, leaving the deal on standby as the clock ticks toward the midfielder’s current expiry date in June 2027.

Rodri’s situation has created uncertainty at the Etihad as the Spain international, a key figure in City’s midfield enters the final year of his contract.

If no extension is agreed, he could leave as a free agent in one year.

The stalemate has intensified speculation about Rodri’s long-term future among supporters and pundits.

Real Madrid interest has been frequently mentioned in transfer circles, with comments from the club’s President and wider admiration for Rodri’s profile as a potential Toni Kroos-style successor adding fuel to rumours.

Sources say a switch to Spain would most likely only materialise in 2027 if City and the player fail to reach terms, either on a free transfer or for a reduced fee.

For now, City retain Rodri’s services under his existing deal, and the club have time to negotiate before the contract runs down but the lack of progress keeps the situation unresolved.
