Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY) have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition following a pre‑emptive ambush in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The operation, which according to a statement obtained from Nigerian Army and signed on Sunday, by JTF NW Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, carried out on 27 June 2026 by the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7, was launched after credible intelligence indicated the group was planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
Troops established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route and engaged the assailants as they approached, triggering a fierce gun battle.
“The superior combat effectiveness of our troops forced the terrorists into disarray.
“Two terrorists were neutralised while others fled into the surrounding forest,” Danja said in the statement.
An exploitation of the area recovered multiple items believed to belong to the cell, the statement said, including AK‑47 rifles, AK‑47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the offensive is part of continuing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and protect communities across the North West.
The JTF urged the public to keep supplying timely and credible information to security agencies to help foil future attacks.
Danja added, “Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting the lives and property of law‑abiding citizens and sustaining offensive operations against all terrorist and criminal elements operating across the North West.”
