Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North Central Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD (OPSS) deployed at Patrol Base Babasango have rescued two civilians from kidnappers during an aggressive fighting patrol.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Nigerian Army, on June 3, 2026, while conducting a fighting patrol to Gidan Dogo Ekaa, troops “encountered and secured the victims who had daringly escaped their captors’ custody,” the statement said.

The rescued men were identified as Temitope Samuel, 42, and Mohammed Sani, 40.

Both men were immediately taken into protective custody and “have been transferred to Patrol Base Babanla, where they are receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological support and all necessary assistance,” the Army added.

The statement noted that the arrangements are under way to reunite the victims with their families.

The operation, part of sustained, intelligence-led efforts under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, was praised by military officials.

“We commend the gallant troops for their bravery and professionalism,” the statement read, and the Army urged the public to continue providing timely information to bolster the fight against insecurity.
