United States President Donald Trump has criticised four Republican senators who joined Democrats in supporting a War Powers resolution tied to U.S. actions on Iran.

Trump in a remark shared on his social media handle on Wednesday noted that the vote undermined American leverage and handed a propaganda victory to Tehran.

“So, I have Iran on the ‘ropes,’ ready to go down for the fall, willing to give us practically anything, and for the first time in decades, respecting the hell out of the United States and its President, ME,” Trump wrote.

He said the Senate’s decision to hold what he called a “poorly timed and meaningless War Powers Act Vote” signaled to the “Number One Sponsor of Terror in the World” that Washington was divided and that he must stop, an act he argued “provided aid and comfort” to the enemy.

Trump named the four GOP senators who voted with Democrats as “Losers” and said their action had made his job “more difficult,” but added he would still accomplish his objectives “one way or the other, because I always get it done.”

Republican and Democratic leaders on the Senate floor framed the dispute as a constitutional check on executive war powers and a response to an escalation of tensions with Iran.

However, supporters of the resolution said it reasserts congressional oversight of military actions.
