United States Vice President J.D. Vance has claimed that the administration is offering Iran an “open hand”.
Vance in an interview noted that US would normalise ties if Tehran negotiates “in good faith” and changes its approach, a shift officials framed as conditional but significant after months of tension.
“We are extending an open hand to Iran. If they want to change their relationship with us, we will change our relationship with Iran. That’s the offer,” Vance said, signalling willingness to alter the bilateral relationship if Tehran meets specific conditions.
The remarks come after a preliminary U.S.-Iran peace framework reached in June 2026 following earlier conflict between the two countries.
Vance also pointed to rising maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, saying he expects the waterway to remain open and “toll-free” over the long term.
