US forces struck and disabled two Iranian-flagged tankers in the Gulf of Oman on May 8, enforcing a naval blockade amid escalating maritime tensions with Iran.

CENTCOM reported that F/A-18 Super Hornets from the USS George H.W. Bush targeted the Sea Star III and Sevda with precision munitions to their smokestacks.

Officials said the tankers ignored warnings as they approached an Iranian port, prompting the action to neutralise them without sinking.

“The tankers were disabled via precision strikes after repeated hails went unanswered,” a CENTCOM statement noted, framing it as a measure to uphold the ongoing blockade on Iranian ports.

This follows a similar US disabling of another tanker days earlier, part of intensified operations in the region during the 2026 US-Israel-Iran conflict.
