Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has insisted that Tehran is not at war with Riyadh, even as recent Houthi attacks in southern Saudi Arabia have injured more than 70 people and targeted the kingdom’s critical East–West oil pipeline.
In an interview with India Today, from the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Pezeshkian sought to distance Iran from the cross-border violence.
“We are not in war with Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have their own problems,” he said, underscoring Tehran’s position that the Yemen-based group operates independently.
The president used the platform to call for a broader de-escalation, urging Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan and other neighbouring states to establish a joint peace and security architecture.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions after drone and missile strikes disrupted parts of southern Saudi Arabia and threatened a key artery for global oil supplies.
