FC Barcelona has confirmed a reshaped captaincy group for the 2026/27 season, with 19-year-old forward Lamine Yamal promoted into the club’s leadership quintet.
Head coach Hansi Flick reportedly appointed Raphinha and Pedri as the first and second captains, while the squad’s internal vote added Eric García, Frenkie de Jong and Yamal to complete the five-man group, according to reports citing journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The move marks a clear leadership transition following the departures of long-serving figures Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo, fast-tracking Yamal’s influence alongside established core players Pedri and Raphinha.
Yamal’s inclusion underscores his growing status at the club after emerging as a key attacker in recent seasons, while the blend of experienced and homegrown voices is seen as part of Flick’s effort to stabilise the dressing room and reinforce a unified identity.
