The Nigeria Police Force has announced the tragic loss of 17 police officers who paid the supreme price in service to the nation following a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, in the early hours of 8th May, 2026.

The officers according to a statement obtained from NPF on Saturday were among personnel undergoing specialised operational training at the facility when terrorists launched a coordinated assault from multiple directions at about 0115hrs.

Several members of the Nigerian Army also died while repelling the attack, the statement confirmed.

Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the fallen officers as “courageous and dedicated personnel who demonstrated exceptional patriotism and commitment to national security” through their participation in advanced counter‑terrorism and tactical training programmes.

The IGP conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the entire Force to the bereaved families and said the sacrifices of the deceased “will never be forgotten.”

CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, Commissioner of Police for Yobe State, visited the school on behalf of the IGP to commiserate with Brigadier General A.C. Enuagu, Commandant of the School, army officers and surviving police trainees.

He praised the resilience of surviving personnel and urged them “to remain resolute in completing the training programme in honour of their fallen colleagues.”

The Nigeria Police Force said it will continue to work closely with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to apprehend those responsible.

“The Nigeria Police Force salutes the courage, sacrifice, and service of the fallen officers whose dedication to duty will forever remain honoured by the nation,” the statement concluded.
