Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has addressed the recent controversy surrounding Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction to being substituted during the team’s win over Ipswich on Wednesday.

Amorim disclosed that Garnacho went to the dressing room to change clothes due to being wet and watched the rest of the game from there.

However, despite clarifying there was no major issue, Amorim emphasised the importance of perception at a big club like Manchester United, noting that as a lighthearted punishment, Garnacho will buy dinner for the entire team.

He said, “Garnacho came to me. It was funny. I did some investigation and he went to the dressing-room and so changed his clothes because he was wet. He watched the game, not on the bench, and at the end of the game he was there and went home.

“So not an issue. But at a big club like Man United, everything is important and perception is important. He is going to pay a dinner to all the team and that is it.

“Garnacho is a young kid that will learn. The important thing is that in the next morning, he was speaking with me.

“Zirkzee did the same thing (walking down the tunnel) but the context was different. We can deal with that and let’s just move on.”
