In a historic move, Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Tinubu, approved 10 major road contracts exceeding N7 trillion during a single meeting, shattering previous records for infrastructure spending.

The approvals, coupled with three urban rail projects worth $2.99 billion, signal a bold push to transform transportation and drive economic growth nationwide.

Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, announced the milestone on X: “The Federal Executive Council under President Tinubu also broke the record for the most road contract approvals in a single sitting today with a total of ten major road projects approved by the council.”

Among the standout road projects:
• N1.79 trillion for the 360km dual carriageway 5th section of the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway.
• N1.86 trillion extension of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway into Akwa Ibom State.
• N548.98 billion full rebuild of Lagos’ iconic Carter Bridge.
• N178 billion reconstruction of the 128km Mando-Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State.
• 296km across two sections of the Trans-Sahara Highway.
The rail approvals—Lagos Green Line Rail (Phase 1A), Kano Metro City Rail, and Kaduna State Light Rail—will be financed through the Ministry of Finance, targeting enhanced urban mobility.

“These initiatives target improved mobility, economic stimulation, and job creation across multiple Nigerian regions including Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna,” Olusegun added.

Government officials hailed the decisions as a game-changer for connectivity and job opportunities, with implementation set to begin soon.
