The Federal Government through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged public frustrations over dropped calls, slow internet, and unstable data services, vowing stricter enforcement for improvements.

In a statement signed on Thursday by NCC Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, the regulator highlighted massive investments: Mobile Network Operators spent over N2.13 trillion in 2025 on infrastructure, adding 2,800 sites, with N373.8 billion more from Tower Companies.

“These investments are welcome, but the Commission’s expectation is that they must translate into visible and measurable service improvements for consumers,” Ukoha stated.

NCC reported progress, including 4G penetration rising to 54% and median download speeds up to 20Mbps, plus 730 new 5G sites in 2026 across 27 states.

Commitments stand for 12,000 site upgrades this year.

Enforcement under 2024 regulations began November 2025, with consumer compensation for poor service.

The NCC tackled risks like 27,000 fibre cuts in 2025 via collaborations with security agencies.

“We therefore call on all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at protecting telecommunications infrastructure,” the statement urged, reaffirming commitment to reliable services.
