French President announces minute of silence for Nice attack victims before France-Spain match

French President, Emmanuel Macron has revealed that a minute of silence will be observed before the upcoming France-Spain football match to commemorate the victims of the 2016 Nice terror attack, marking its tenth anniversary.

In a post on X, Macron states, “Before France-Spain, a minute of silence will be observed in tribute to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016.”)

He added, “Thank you to the President of FIFA for responding to the request of France and all mobilized French people. We will never forget.”

The Nice attack occurred on the evening of July 14, 2016 (Bastille Day), when a truck driven by Tunisian-French dual national Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel plowed into crowds celebrating on the Promenade des Anglais.

The assault killed 86 people and injured hundreds more. It was claimed by the Islamic State group and remains one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in French history.

The France and Spain will play their 2026 World Cup semi-final match on July 14.
