Iran has laid to rest its former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei over four months after his killing in an airstrike, as two days of US and Iranian attacks raised fears of a return to all-out war.
The official social media account of Iran’s Supreme Leader announced that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—referred to in the post as the “martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution”—was buried in the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad in the early hours of Friday, July 10, 2026.
The account’s handler confirmed the burial in a post that read in part, “In the early hours of Friday, July 10, 2026, the pure body of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei (may Allah sanctify his pure soul), was laid to rest in the luminous shrine of Imam Reza (pbuh).”
The message described his death in terms of martyrdom and invoked blessings for his “pure soul,” accompanying the statement with a portrait image.
The post concluded with the hashtag “#WeMustRise,” a phrase widely interpreted as a call for continued resistance and adherence to the principles of the Islamic Revolution following the leader’s passing.
