Jürgen Klopp has accepted the position as the new head coach of the German national team on a long-term contract, sources close to the negotiation confirmed Sunday.
Club and federation officials said the finer points of Klopp’s agreement including contract length, performance targets and the scope of a wider “national project” he will lead remain under discussion.
Negotiations are also ongoing over Klopp’s formal departure from the RB Group, where he has been linked to advisory and management roles in recent months.
Despite those outstanding issues, both sides have agreed in principle that Klopp will take charge of Germany’s senior team.
The appointment marks a high-profile return to frontline management for Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024 and has since been weighing options in coaching and football administration.
Federation sources described the project as ambitious, aiming to rebuild Germany’s international competitiveness through a renewed tactical identity, youth integration and a stronger links between club development pathways and the national team.
RB Leipzig had been monitoring the situation and reportedly considered Oliver Glasner as a potential replacement within the RB Group structure.
