Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire will miss his side’s Premier League clash against Chelsea this Saturday after receiving a one-match suspension and £30,000 fine from the Football Association (FA).
The punishment stems from an incident during United’s March match against Bournemouth, where Maguire was shown a straight red card for denying an “obvious goalscoring” opportunity (DOGSO).
Following his dismissal, Maguire was charged on April 1 by an independent regulatory commission for acting in an “improper manner” after swearing at fourth official Matt Donohue.
An image from the Bournemouth game captures Maguire angrily protesting the referee’s decision, which sparked the additional disciplinary process for abusive language.
This ban is in addition to the automatic suspension from the red card, sidelining the England international for the high-stakes trip to Stamford Bridge.
