The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) operated for four trading days during the week, following the Federal Government’s declaration of Friday, June 12, 2026, as a public holiday to mark Democracy Day.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalisation advanced by 0.88 per cent to close the week at 244,738.74 points and ₦156.970 trillion, respectively.
Similarly, most sectoral and thematic indices closed in positive territory.
However, the NGX Pension, NGX AFR, NGX Industrial Goods, NGX Sovereign Bond and NGX Commodity indices declined by 0.03 per cent, 1.20 per cent, 0.21 per cent, 1.61 per cent, 0.54 per cent, 0.51 per cent, 1.00 per cent, 2.04 per cent and 0.34 per cent, respectively, while one index closed flat.
A total of 40 equities recorded price appreciation during the week, higher than the 23 gainers posted in the previous week. Meanwhile, 53 equities declined in price, lower than the 65 losers recorded in the preceding week, while 53 equities remained unchanged, compared with 58 in the previous week.
Investors traded a total turnover of 4.964 billion shares worth ₦207.521 billion in 235,966 deals during the week. This compares with the 3.966 billion shares valued at ₦175.659 billion exchanged in 343,587 deals in the previous week.
The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart by volume, accounting for 4.116 billion shares valued at ₦84.607 billion in 96,165 deals. The sector contributed 82.92 per cent and 40.77 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
The Services Industry followed with 232.479 million shares worth ₦4.955 billion traded in 17,614 deals, while the Industrial Goods Industry ranked third with 144.988 million shares valued at ₦39.077 billion in 24,775 deals.
Trading activity in the top three equities by volume—Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc, FCMB Group Plc and Access Holdings Plc—accounted for 2.883 billion shares worth ₦36.188 billion in 15,533 deals. Together, these transactions contributed 58.09 per cent and 17.44 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
