Taiwo Oyedele has formally took office as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on Thursday, succeeding Wale Edun in President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle.

In a statement on Friday, Oyedele thanked Edun for “his service to our country and the foundation he has laid,” adding that Nigeria is at a “critical juncture” to turn reforms into “tangible benefits for all Nigerians.”

He outlined key priorities: productivity and growth through a “predictable and investor-friendly environment”; fiscal discipline for “transparent and prudent management”; revenue optimization with “fair taxation” that broadens the base while easing burdens on the vulnerable; stronger government coordination; and deeper public-private partnerships for “data-driven policy design” and execution.

“Success will be defined by execution,” Oyedele emphasised.

“We are committed to disciplined implementation, accountability, and measurable results” to build a “stable, inclusive, and prosperous economy.”

A former tax reform committee head and Minister of State for Finance, Oyedele vowed to shift “from reform to result.”
