Self-styled Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi (also known as Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew), has been arrested by the Nigerian Police, Dailyeconomy gathered on Tuesday.

The arrest occurred shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest on Tuesday, following his failure to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud, impersonation, and operating a fictitious government agency.

Adeyemi allegedly forged an appointment letter claiming he was appointed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration as head of the PFIPC, a council the Presidency has repeatedly stated does not exist.

Despite this, he reportedly secured office space in the Federal Secretariat, met with cabinet ministers, financial regulators, anti-corruption officials, and foreign diplomats, and even obtained a note verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for visa purposes.

The controversy escalated when the purported agency found its way into Nigeria’s 2026 national budget with an allocation of over ₦1.3 billion (nearly $1 million), raising serious questions about oversight in government institutions.

The Presidency issued a disclaimer, denying any link to Adeyemi or the council, and President Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate the matter.

Adeyemi had claimed in interviews that he borrowed significant sums (reports claimed ₦100–400 million) to facilitate his “appointment,” and that his lenders had petitioned the EFCC over non-repayment.

He previously faced charges in late 2025 but reportedly went into hiding citing safety concerns while promising to appear in court.

Police are said to have questioned him following the arrest in Osun State.
