Real Madrid has announced that the club and its president, Florentino Pérez, will provide a combined €2 million to support victims of the devastating earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on June 24.

This was obtained in a statement made available by the club on Monday.

“Real Madrid Foundation launches a fundraising campaign, in collaboration with the Red Cross, aimed at supporting those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela.

“Real Madrid has decided to support this campaign with the donation of one million euros to help the victims and the families of the victims. Likewise, the President of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, will also contribute with a donation of one million euros. From Real Madrid we want to show all our support, affection and solidarity with the Venezuelan people in these difficult times,” the club said.

The donations will be channelled through a joint fundraising campaign run with the Red Cross.

The move follows twin quakes — a 7.2 foreshock and a 7.5 mainshock less than a minute apart that struck near San Felipe in Yaracuy, west of Caracas.

The seismic event, the strongest to hit the country in over a century, has been blamed for widespread building collapses, severe infrastructure damage and a rapidly rising death toll.

As of late June 27–29 updates more than 1,400 fatalities, thousands injured and tens of thousands displaced.

Rescue operations continue amid hundreds of aftershocks, while international aid organisations and governments mobilise support.
