Cape Verde captain and veteran goalkeeper, Vozinha consoled the distraught teammate on the pitch after their 3-2 extra-time defeat to Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
“We all played great football. There’s nothing to cry about, we’ll keep our heads held high,” Vozinha told his teammates as cameras captured him helping a teammate up and embracing him amid a full stadium, a moment praised for its “leader mentality.”
The debutant side bowed out after a heroic run that included a 0-0 draw with Spain and a stirring fight against the defending champions, with goals from Deroy Duarte and Sidny Lopes Cabral giving Cape Verde hope before an own goal in extra time sealed Argentina’s win.
