Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to growing calls from youths and political groups urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election, emphasising a deliberate approach rather than a hasty decision.

In a video clip circulating online, Jonathan addressed the appeals directly, stating, “Contesting the Nigerian presidency isn’t a computer game. I’ve heard from young people, and I’ll consult. I cannot just wake up and decide I want to be president of Nigeria again. Like I said, I’ll consult, and if there’s a need, I will.”

The remarks come amid months of speculation fueled by campaigns such as the Coalition for Jonathan 2027.

Political figures and some PDP elements in the South-South region have been pushing for his return, positioning him as a potential Southern challenger to incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

Discussions also center on his eligibility and strategies to unify opposition ahead of the polls.

Jonathan, who served from 2010 to 2015, highlighted his cautious stance, drawing mixed reactions.

Supporters view him as a viable alternative, while skeptics question his past performance and worry about vote-splitting in a fragmented opposition landscape.
