LAPO MfB appoints Durodoye as independent non-executive director

LAPO Microfinance Bank has announced the appointment of Dr. Kazeem Kolawole Durodoye as an independent non-executive director as part of efforts to strengthen its corporate governance and strategic oversight.

In a statement, the bank said Durodoye brings over three decades of experience spanning information technology, cybersecurity, project management and financial systems transformation.

He holds a Ph.D. in Information Science from the University of Ibadan and is currently pursuing another doctoral degree in Cybersecurity at Capitol Technology University, United States. His academic qualifications also include a Master of Information Science, a Master of Science in Pharmaceutics (Pharmaceutical Microbiology), and a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology.

The bank noted that he is a highly certified professional with credentials such as Certified Information Security Manager, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Project Management Professional, Certified Data Privacy Professional, Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT, and Microfinance Certified Banker.

According to the statement, Durodoye has led several high-impact initiatives across both public and private sectors, including the development of a cloud security strategy for Payceler UK Limited and providing technical support for MSME lending expansion at the Development Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with the World Bank.

“He also served as Programme Manager and Technical Consultant for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s eNaira implementation and designed the framework for the Unified IT Platform for all Microfinance Banks in Nigeria,” the statement added.

The bank further disclosed that he has overseen the implementation of core banking systems for leading institutions, including LAPO, and has participated in executive training programmes at institutions such as the Grameen Foundation, Lagos Business School, and Samuelson Management Limited.

Durodoye is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigeria Computer Society, American Society of Information Science and Technology, Association for Information Systems, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, Project Management Institute, and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Commenting on the appointment, Oluremi Akande, Director of Marketing and Communication, LAPO Microfinance Bank said the addition of Durodoye to the board underscores the bank’s commitment to strengthening governance and accelerating its digital transformation agenda.

“Dr. Durodoye’s extensive experience in cybersecurity, IT governance and financial systems innovation will further enhance the bank’s capacity to deliver secure, inclusive and technology-driven financial services to our customers,” Akande stated.
