Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly installed Supreme Leader, has vowed revenge for the assassination of his father, Ali Khamenei, saying the demand for retaliation is a matter for the whole nation and “must certainly be carried out” soon.
In a written statement released during funeral ceremonies, Mojtaba Khamenei described avenging his father and the “martyrs of these two wars” as the “demand of the nation” and pledged that it “must certainly be carried out” regardless of current officeholders.
He added that “whether we are here or not, this will be realized, and soon,” framing the pledge as inevitable and urgent.
State media and large funeral gatherings in Tehran have featured intense anti‑US and anti‑Israel rhetoric after Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026, in airstrikes attributed to the United States and Israel.
Mojtaba was appointed successor shortly afterward amid widespread public displays of mourning.
In his statement, Mojtaba also vowed to “avenge the pure blood of you and all martyrs of these two wars,” language that signals both a personal promise and a broader call to national retribution.
