United States President Donald Trump has accused Iran of duplicitous tactics in ongoing negotiations, claiming the regime speaks respectfully in private while publicly denying contact – all while desperate for a deal due to its “totally gone” military.
In a public address captured on video, Trump vented frustration over Iran’s behaviour.
“I can say this, Iran wants to make a deal,” he said.
“What I don’t like about Iran is they’ll talk to me with such great respect, and then they’ll go on television. They’ll say, we did not speak to the President. We did not – I just spoke to them!”
“We did not speak to the President,” Trump mimicked.
“So they play games, but let me just tell you, they want to make a deal. And who wouldn’t, when your military is totally gone? We could do anything we want to them.”
The remarks come amid the 2025-2026 US-Iran conflict, marked by American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, a fragile ceasefire brokered last month, Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and Tehran’s recent 14-point peace proposal.
Trump has maintained economic and military pressure, warning of renewed action if talks falter.
A White House spokesperson confirmed Trump is “carefully evaluating” the proposal but emphasised Iran’s need to verifiably dismantle its nuclear program and end proxy attacks.
