Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Russia has ceased air attacks on Ukrainian cities since a brief US-brokered ceasefire took effect on Saturday, though intense fighting continues along the frontlines.
The three-day truce, spanning May 9-11 to coincide with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, has also facilitated a large-scale prisoner swap between the two sides.
Zelenskyy highlighted the halt in urban strikes as a positive development, but accused Moscow of ongoing aggression in contested areas.
Russia, however, claims Ukraine has violated the ceasefire more than 1,000 times, according to statements from its Defence Ministry.
Mutual accusations underscore persistent tensions, with both sides reporting sporadic clashes despite the temporary lull in major aerial bombardments.
The fragile pause comes amid stalled peace talks and escalating rhetoric, raising questions about the potential for broader de-escalation.
