Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the final forfeiture of 48 properties associated with former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to the Federal Government.

This was made known in a statement obtained from the anti-graft agency on Wednesday.

Delivering judgment, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, held that the EFCC had proved the properties “were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities and were not acquired with lawful sources of income.”

The statement reads, “The EFCC, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, secured the final forfeiture of 48 properties linked to a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

The EFCC has been investigating assets allegedly acquired during his time in office. The commission had earlier moved to forfeit a similar batch of properties (reports previously referenced around 57), making today’s final order a major milestone in the agency’s asset recovery drive against high-profile public officials.

Civil forfeiture proceedings like this allow the EFCC to recover suspected illicit assets even without a criminal conviction.
