Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a marginal decline in headline inflation for June 2026, marking a modest slowdown in the pace of price increases.
According to the NBS Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released on Wednesday, the headline inflation rate stood at 15.91% in June 2026.
This represents a slight drop from 15.93% recorded in May 2026 and a significant decrease from 25.29% in June 2025.
The report further noted that on a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate was 1.66% in June, which was 0.09 percentage points lower than the 1.75% recorded in May.
Food inflation, a key driver of overall price pressures, stood at 17.52% year-on-year.
However, on a month-on-month basis, food inflation accelerated to 3.75% in June 2026, up by 0.77 percentage points from 2.98% in May.
“In June 2026, the Headline inflation rate was 15.91%, down from 15.93% in May 2026 and stood at 25.29% in the same month of the preceding year (June 2025),” the NBS stated.
