A resurfaced video of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has reignited debates over his history of party affiliations, with the former Anambra governor insisting he’s “always a loyal member” but leaves when “pushed” to avoid discord.

In the clip, Obi recounts his exits from parties including APGA, PDP, Labour Party, and most recently the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by 2025-2026.

“Every party I’ve left, I have been pushed to leave,” he states firmly.

“I don’t stay where there’s problem. If tomorrow someone says they do not want you here, I’ll move on. That is not weakness. It’s a virtue.”

Obi emphasises his aversion to quarrels, preferring “peaceful exits” even if it means appearing as a “coward.”

He underscores his unwavering commitment, “My commitment is for a better Nigeria. I don’t know where I’m going to stay. We need to work together with other entities to change the country.”

The video, now circulating widely on social media, emerges as 2026 speculation swirls about Obi’s next political move.

Supporters hail his adaptability in Nigeria’s fluid opposition landscape, while critics question his consistency, dubbing him a “serial switcher.”

Obi’s trajectory reflects broader shifts: He won Anambra’s governorship on APGA in 2006, joined PDP for his 2010 reelection, ran under Labour Party in 2023, and briefly aligned with ADC amid coalition talks.

Reactions poured in online, with #ObiLoyalty trending.

One user posted: “Peter Obi is principled—loyalty to Nigeria over parties.”

Another countered: “Pushed out? Sounds like excuses for opportunism.”
